For the past 3  years the RawSacramento Group has been holding potlucks and meetings in Sacramento, Carmichael,  Citrus Heights and Elk Grove.   Each month we hold a Sunday PM Potluck at 5:00pm on the 1st Sunday of the Month.  We also have special events & speakers.

Last month we held an exquisite Gourmet Raw Food Dinner and lecture by Brian Clement, Director of the Hippocrates Health Institute in West Palm Beach, FL.    This event was attended by 38 individuals some coming from as far as Redding and Santa Cruz.

In January we had Dr. Doug Graham and Roz Gruben speak to our group at another gourmet dinner held in Citrus Heights.

In August 2000 we had Sacramento’s only Breatharian speak to our group at our monthly Potluck.

In November 2000 we hosted a 6-week class on Raw Foods taught by Victoria Boutenko which included dinner (6 consecutive Sunday Nights).

Last February we had a Rawfood Dessert Potluck in a 1930s Bungalow in Downtown Sacramento.

Our members really seem to enjoy getting together once or twice per month at scheduled functions and discussing their experiences with raw foods.  We are a superb example of a “support group.”  We have individuals of all ages, occupations, and interests.  We cordially invite you to get involved!  There is no cost to join, although some of our events do have a  fee to attend (to pay for meals, meeting rooms, etc).

I am presently moderating our email notifications.  At present I send out 2-3 emails per month describing upcoming activities.  Sometimes I forward things which may be of interest to the general membership (Raw Events in Northern California).   I also send out rawfood recipes.

Would you like to be added to our email list?  (You may unsubscribe at any time).   Please send me a reply with the following information & I’ll add you to our list.

History:

This group began in 1998 due to the vision & hard work of Ruby Palmer who established the group as a monthly potluck & support group.  In 2000 Ruby moved away, and Mark Blackburn took over coordination of activities.  During 2000 & 2001 he brought in a number of special Raw Food speakers and events.  In the spring of 2003 we  formed a steering committee to assist in guiding the group.

Non-Profit Organizations and 'level of service'

Sometimes I am amused by new folks that assume Raw Sacramento is like a business.  In society there are for profit enterprises like K-Mart, Enron, Tyson Foods, McDonalds, your local congressperson, etc.  Then, there are Non-profit organizations.  The latter generally are not getting rich at your expense, but rather fulfill some helping mission for some greater purpose.  Often their resources are stretched to the bone.  That is exactly how it is with Raw Sacramento.  I freely give hundreds of cash dollars per year to keep this group afloat.  I further donate thousands of dollars per year of my time to coordinate events, update the website, compose newsletters, etc.    I do this because I think it is worth it.

Sometimes the people who confuse us with a  business get very snappy with requests for service from me.  "Get me that recipe!", "Refer me to a Doctor", "Call me when you have another event", "Where can I buy organic produce?"

Friends, when I have the time I try to answer the questions I get or use the web to share this information.   I cannot call people on the phone.  As of this writing we have 230 individuals on our email list.  Do you have time to call 230 people every week?  Of course not!  Remember, I have to go to work every day just like you!

We are not a business, and we are not getting rich helping people like Tyson Foods does--if you consider what they do to be helping people.

We decidedly are not a business.  I seldom ask for donations of time or money.   If you enjoy the group, I assume you will support it as you are able.

Have a vibrant and healthy day!

-Mark Blackburn
